Last 19 March, Jean-Claude stood in at 24 hours’ notice to conduct the Royal Scottish National Orchestra in Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique and Szymanowski’s 2nd Violin Concerto with acclaimed soloist Nicola Benedetti. The Press & Journal described the concert as “a triumph”, also saying: “Conducting with elegance and precision, Picard was magnificent in Hector Berlioz’s “Symphonie Fantastique”. (…) Picard brought out all the emotion and anguish of the symphony. (…) the applause must have shaken the venue to its foundations. (…) a triumphant night.”
